June Dryburgh
Civil Celebrant
Funerals
Many people are not aware that they can choose their own celebrant to conduct a funeral. You do not have to go with the celebrant chosen by the funeral director.
Of course this is a very stressful time and most people have not given it much thought. Death can be sudden and unexpected, but when it comes at the end of a long life or terminal illness, many have thought about it and have made choices about what they want. Some of the most rewarding funerals I have been involved with have been for people who have spoken to me before their deaths and have given clear instructions.
These instructions may be to do with choice of music, readings or speakers. The end result is that I have been able to honour the wishes of that person and create a ceremony that truly reflects that life.
Funerals or Memorial services can be held in private homes, gardens or function rooms and not just in funeral chapels or cemeteries. Sometimes the number of people expected to attend is the deciding factor.
We only have one chance to get this one right so please think about choosing a celebrant who is committed to doing the very best.
"June provided a personal ceremony for Ernie that truly reflected his life - his talents, his humour and his love for his family." - Anne
Keith was able to give me explicit instructions for the content of his funeral before he died. This made it a little easier for his family when the time came.
Pictured left is his memorial at Springvale after we dedicated his ashes a year on from his funeral. Thank you to Keith's family for this lovely photograph.
