It is lovely to welcome a new life into the world and now that many people do not adhere to a religion they choose to have a secular ceremony to replace a christening.

This can be very meaningful and can involve relatives and friends who act as mentors /godparents. The parents usually make a pledge to the child and formally bestow their name. A certificate is given signed by the celebrant, parents and chosen mentors

Because these ceremonies usually involve a baby and many children as guests, I think it is wise to keep this ceremony fairly short. It is usually held in the family home or garden and is followed by a tea party or lunch for family and friends.

June Dryburgh Civil Celebrant Melbourne Naming Ceremony

Camelia & Andrew have given each of their three children a naming ceremony. As I had officiated at their wedding it was a pleasure to continue to be their family celebrant.

Arwen was anointed with rose oil as her second name, Lōse, is the Maori word for rose.
